Yeah, no. We’re not even going to try and throw a football ourselves, let alone teach someone else how to do it. But the entertaining part and talking about how to throw a football party is a snap. Superbowl and Canada’s Grey Cup conjure images of hot dogs, nachos and chips, but that kind of tailgating is a little boring. Let’s deconstruct the normal and start with a hearty, versatile ingredient that warms even the coldest of bellies during football season. I give you: pasta. We created two fun recipes inspired by football traditions, but with a bit of a Canadian twist!
Usually when I try super eco-friendly products I have a gut feeling that they won’t work quite as well as toxin-laden, heavy-duty, disease-causing products will. I know you agree with me. Well, folks – I think we’ve hit a turning point. Last week I took my boys to Nova Scotia and showed them the sights of my hometown. After a gorgeous Remembrance Day ceremony, we ended up on Citadel Hill (where else) and explored the museum.
Even after visiting many schools in Liberia for Right to Play, I wasn’t prepared for what I would see when I did a similar outing in Jamaica. Maybe because Africa is farther. Maybe I equate the Caribbean with vacations. You see photos of soft beaches, tropical drinks and killer sunsets and think everyone must live a resort lifestyle. Whatever the excuse, it’s embarrassing that I’ve been so blasé and undereducated.
It’s that time of year.
We’re all counting down the days until the holidays begin. I’ve always been a big fan of Advent calendars. I remember going to sleep at a little girl willing my eyes shut, despite the utter excitement of knowing I’d get to open a new door in the morning and Christmas, glorious Christmas, would be one day closer.
It’s here! We have now released our 2016 holiday gift guide in order to give you our curated ideas for each member of your precious family. It took a lot of hours and much crowd-sourcing (and we loved every minute). This year we have 16 guides and a little something for everyone. Feel free to click through at the bottom of each section, as every guide will appear there so you can pick and choose what you’d like to see. We wish you the merriest of Christmases, the happiest of Hanukkahs and the best Kwanzaa ever. Have a peaceful, joyful season and make every memory with your kids count. xx
It’s important to be able to get your geek on sometimes, and those of us who have loved ones in the mode – only a few gifts are special enough to suffice!
I’ve always found grandparent gifts really hard to choose. They love sentimental, heartfelt items, but often your family photos are buried on hard disks and you’re not quite organized enough to find that great art piece that was painted last year. Hopefully these grandparent gift ideas strike a chord!
Hostess gifts over the holidays are usually so kitchy. Flowers are a bit of a pain for a busy hostess, and the last thing you want to do is give more flamboyant holiday ‘stuff’ they have to put into storage every years. Here are a few hostess gifts that will stick.
Wikipedia states that “A lumbersexual or urban lumberjack is a man who has adopted style traits typical of a traditional lumberjack, namely a beard, plaid shirt, and scruffy hair, substituting otherwise clean-cut and fashionable style choices. Do we ever have some lumbersexual gift ideas for the ones in your life.
These hip baby gifts will not only make the kid look cool, but mom and dad will seem like rockstars who are oh so cool and collected. Even if they are not. Because, well… baby.
