Upping My Sunglasses Game

GEAR, style By October 30, 2019 No Comments

Having just moved across the country, I weeded out a ton of unnecessary or disposable clutter before I left. There was an entire drawer full of sunglasses! Some were broken but most were cheap giveaway pairs that are handed out at conferences and tennis matches. No more. From now on I will invest in good pieces for my wardrobe. It’s about longevity, not abundance. This is the only responsible course of action for the planet.

Yo-Kai Watch

My Son is Obsessed with a Video Game. So I am Too.

GEAR, tech By October 4, 2019 1 Comment

People talk about how kids obsessed with a video game are robbed of their childhoods. There are countless articles out there about how terrible technology is for children. This isn’t one of them. We’re a tech forward family. My husband and I both have jobs that rely on technology in some way and I’ve always been a gadget geek.

My son learned about Yo-Kai Watch last year. Grade 1 was rough for him. He felt isolated in school, made few friends and was picked on. He really connected to the story of the Yo-Kai and their friend Nate and we got the game for his Nintendo 3DS.

5 Hilarious Signs Your Kid Might Be Using Your Phone Too Much

FAM, tech By September 28, 2019 No Comments

We’ve all handed our phones over to quiet down an antsy child in line. Sometimes the easiest answer is the right answer in the moment and a little Candy Crush never hurt anyone. The ends justify the means, no judgement here. We totally get it.  While a little bit of screen time isn’t the end of the world, kids often fall in love with their parents’ mobile devices and it can spell (humorous) trouble. Here are five hilarious signs your kid might be using your phone just a little bit too much:

Yoga with Toddlers : Tips for Connecting Mommy Time with Baby Time

I know every word to the theme song for Paw Patrol. I can recite Goodnight Moon forwards, backwards, upside down, and inebriated. I spend the majority of my days creating with play dough, kicking balls, singing nursery rhymes, and playing make believe games with plastic toys. There are a myriad of reasons behind my participation in all of these activities, the most important being that they interest my children. I repeat. They interest my children. When the sun goes down and the babies are tucked in to bed, you will not find me re-reading Goodnight Moon for the kajillionth time. As it turns out,  I have a few interests of my own and none of them involve pups who save the day.

8 Ways Aging Has Made Me Better

beauty, fitness, self By September 17, 2019 2 Comments

I try not to think about it, this aging business. It’s not easy. You think that the shock, after that first time you are called “Ma’am”, or when you realize the cute guy at the gym isn’t hitting on you (he’s trying to help you because you remind him of his mom) will wear off, and you won’t be quite as sensitive. You think that your skin will get thicker and you won’t notice. But you’re wrong.

Stop Motion Video: Non-Stop Fun!

tech By June 19, 2019 No Comments

My son doesn’t enjoy writing very much but he does love making video. He is such an expressive, creative little person and he’s always looking for new ways to express himself on video. He transformed our front door into a backdrop, making his name out of tin foil shapes and adding an approximation of the silver play button he hopes to receive one day for all his hard work. He recently received Stikbot Studio Pro and 2 Stikbot Pet Singles to help him in his video production efforts for his Youtube channel.

Our Technology Diet using Shaw BlueCurve

apps, GEAR By June 12, 2019 No Comments

While tax time makes you do a hard look at your spending habits and swimsuit season can help us realize we’ve been light on kale servings, there has been little impetus in my family to check our technology usage. A bank balance or a scale can provide some hard data to allow us to analyze and then change habits, and now, the Shaw BlueCurve Gateway modem and Home app allow us to do this with device usage. It just can’t make you eat more veggies!
