Should I register for my baby shower?

baby, FAM, grow, LIVE By January 1, 2010 Tags: , , , , 1 Comment

A lot of moms to be wonder if it’s acceptable to register gifts for their baby shower.

Not only is it acceptable but it is also encouraged. Registering helps your family and friends make sure that they are purchasing what you need. It’s safe to say the last thing you want to deal with after you’ve had your baby is to drive all over your city exchanging your gifts because you’ve received 4 ear thermometers.  Register for everything that you want and need, even the big items.   It is very common for guests to go in as a group on a present.

Shopping online is an easy way for others to get presents.

Q – My husband and I were so excited to have children together, and he seemed to be really looking forward to being a father.  Now that our little boy is here, however, he has all but disappeared.  He spends long hours at work, sleeps all night while I feed the baby every 3 hours, and even when at home would rather be checking emails or mowing the lawn than spending time with him.

Ok girls.  Anyone want to talk about sex?  All I can do is talk from experience (and what I’ve heard of course – all the negative stuff is from other people) but it seems that it goes one way or another.  While pregnant, you either discover the stripper/bondage-loving sex-goddess that you’ve always wanted to be, or you have a perpetual headache.

FAM, health By October 7, 2009 Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , 3 Comments

In June, there were reports that the H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu, was especially dangerous for pregnant women. The concern is not that pregnant women are more likely to contract this particular strain of the flu, but rather that they are more likely than the average person to have serious complications should they contract H1N1. As a result of this phenomenon, there is a need to vaccinate pregnant women. However, now that the vaccine is soon to be available, there are questions about whether it is safe for pregnant women.

The Modern Midwife

FAM, pregnancy By October 5, 2009 Tags: , 1 Comment

Midwife British ColumbiaWho’s delivering your baby? Your family doctor, an ob/gyn? How about a midwife?  With a university degree, evidence based practices and woman-centered care, the modern midwife isn’t the mystic woman she used to be. Today she has the respect of doctors and nurses and is delivering babies in the same hospitals.  For many of us midwifery care raises three red flags. The first being: do I have to deliver at home?
