Photography can pause a moment in time and allow you to treasure it forever. The Tiny Light Foundation pairs photographers with families of children faced with life altering diagnoses, and gives them the opportunity to capture their joy, strength and courage in photos. These photo sessions may otherwise be out of mind for families faced with expensive medical costs or overwhelming obstacles above the call of an average parent.

Fellow mothers, Melissa De Pape, Angela Stephen-Dewhust and Billie Depatie launched The Tiny Light Foundation late last year and have since seen photographers across Canada come forth to offer their craft to the cause. Melissa, a photographer, was impacted by the photo memories that cataloged her daughter Nevah’s journey with down syndrome and heart surgery at 6 months old. The photographs allow Melissa to see how far her daughter had come from illness and it has given her strength. Angela and Billie joined her quest to deliver parents of children coping with childhood illnesses and life altering disabilities the same strength and hope.

Families from across the country meet with a handpicked photographer for a customized photo shoot. The family receives a disk edited with ready to print photos and the benefit of preserving those captured memories. The Tiny Light Features the child with a story of their trials and triumphs along with a selection of photos on their website and facebook page. Angela adds that sharing the photos in an online forum allows them to showcase these amazingly strong, resilient children. “They’re so inspiring! And for the parents to have people being amazed at their kids instead of being heart broken for them… It’s perfect.”

If you know a Tiny light that needs a spotlight shined on please submit their story here. The Tiny Light foundation is looking for photographers and families across Canada to participate, as well as potential printing companies that will be able to provide the families with printed images of their photoshoots.
