Seventh Generation iPhone AppWe’re all about hip and funky.  And if you can save the environment and your own health in the mix, that’s a big bonus.  (Kind of like getting a daily calf massage after a night in 4 inch heels).  Did you know that 87% of Canadians believe that household cleaning products are safe even though only 10% of the chemicals used in the typical products have been tested?  Or here’s a scary one.. apparently housewives face a 55% higher cancer risk due to their exposure to household cleaning products… Nice.  Seventh Generation has come out with a super-cool app for the iphone or free download for your home computer.  While you are shopping or surfing, you can search a directory of common cleaning products to see what ingredients are inside.  Merci!

Sometimes when you read the stats, they are pretty astounding.  If every household in Canada replaced 12 rolls of bathroom tissue with Seventh Generation’s 100% recycled tissue, we would save 582 million litres of water (a year’s supply for 1800 Canadian families).  Whoa.  What about laundry?  (Not that our readers ever do that.)  Swapping one bottle of regular detergent with Seventh Generation’s Free & Clear plant-derived product would save us 8.2 million litres of oil (just like removing 3500 cars from the road for an entire year).  Not that we’re anti-environmental or anything, but does it work?  Yup.  Clothes smell fresh, get squeaky clean, and the tissue is as soft as anything.  The company also makes awesome diaper wipes, toilet bowl cleaner and dishwasher detergent.  The diaper wipes just won Cookie Magazine’s Top 100 award.  See?  You can be greener quite easily, and as these unbelievable stats can attest, every step we take makes a huge difference.
