We’re in the home-stretch of summer and my kids are getting fidgety. I don’t want them constantly watching TV or allowing them to morph into screen zombies, and yet their creativity is waning. Sending them outside on bug hunts, creating forts and harvesting their gardens has come and gone. We all know how crucial toys, games and play are for a child’s development, but sometimes we all run out of ideas. Thankfully we found a way to power up the imagination!
Looking for a useful activity that would keep them engaged but also help prepare for the coming school year, we cleaned out the toy box. Nirvana! Remember all of the toys from last holiday that you painstakingly bought and wrapped? If you are like me (ahem), the kids received a tad too many new items and some poor toys received less attention than others. We have created an ‘August Resurgence’ of these unbelievable toys (mommy gets to create the gift guides, so much research is always done!). It then occurred to me that I had been saving a review special toy that needed some testing. It was time for BB8 to join our family.
After the decibel level waned and the kids stopped screaming with joy, a plan was put in motion. We decided to combine a cool outdoor summer meme with a beloved newfound toy. Move over garden gnome – BB8 is going on an adventure.
Unlike more expensive models, this BB8 is powered by remote control and is quite large. He rolled happily along, and got himself into some pretty fun places.

thing my nephew did this summer was dress up and
pretend to be a magician so he could try turn his little sister into a rabbit.

I am a mother of two teenagers so, my daughter participated in an art camp drawing anime cartoons. That is the extend of her creativity. As for my son, his creativity was on his xbox..
My little granddaughter set up her toy kitchen outside and played house.
My grandbabies have high tea every day with water and pretend cookies that they made out of coloured paper!
My son made his own pokemon go game at home by drawing his own pokemons and throwing ping pong balls at them to ‘catch’ them.

My oldest made giant outdoor games like a kerplunk with pvc and chicken wire.
My son went to the Museum they had lots of imagination games and they decorated their bikes.
My nieces decided to go “shopping“ with their dolls.

We made beach treasure men the other day from things we found at the beach. It was great!
We have been having super hero days and camping out in the living room in the tent!
My daughter’s made a doggie water park in our backyard so our dogs could play.
My son does Lego – designs and builds very interesting structures, from dragons to spaceships.
Sophie built a castle out of old cardboard boxes and her and Jack pretended they were princesses.
My son and daughter started a restaurant of the outdoor fireplace at the cabin and made us some very interesting dinners!
My grandkids when they came to visit this summer they were playing detective with a magnifying glass, couple of flashlights each and notepad and pencil to write down what they found in the basement.
My kids found a big cardboard box and made it into a cat play house by using markers & tape!
The kids were gifted a trampoline at the beginning of the summer. They have had so much fun playing on it and making up Star WArs games!
They created a unique and beautiful piece of artwork.
We went to the Lego imaginenation tour! Kids had so much fun and were very creative!

We collected shells, rocks & other beach treasures to create faces and art from them. The kids call them beach buddies 🙂
My son has been enjoying pretending to be an airplane this summer.

Playing restaurant. I would pretend to be a customer and they would pretend to take my order and cook for me.

My kids built a ramp from our backdoor to our trampoline (with Dad’s help). This was after my tween stepped in dog poo while walking to the trampoline in his bare feet. Because building a ramp is much easier than picking up the dog poo!
My kids had a freezie stand in front of our house. It kept them busy for hours and they got to chat with lots of neighbours.
My kids are huge Star Wars fans and have been working on light sabre fight choreography all summer.

My kids were building “traps” out in the woods behind or house.. basically piles of roots and junk that maybe will catch a monster.. haha

My daughter brought her sketch book camping on the lake in Montana this summer, and drew pictures of the views of the water, trees & boats.
They used objects they found beach combing to make crafts.
We’ve done a lot of crafts and built a lot of things out of play doh. they always make the strangest creations!

One really creative thing was wetting the side of a large rock to create a slide.

They make play houses outside in the woods weekly. They keep changing locations and then they go and “visit” each other. It’s really sweet.
We have done so many outdoor walks and nature trails, and we always try to include some element of creativity and imagination!

While on a road trip this summer, my kids spent two weeks pretending to be Luke and Leia (my husband and I were Chewbacca and Han Solo) and our rented mini van was the Millennium Falcon. It made the long drives more fun for them
