If your family is anything like mine, they love bacon, and everyone knows, bacon makes everything better! When you’re making dinner on the grill, try this simple, inexpensive, and delicious perfect summer side dish: bacon wrapped asparagus on the grill!

Ingredients:

  • Fresh asparagus, trimmed and cleaned
  • Salt, pepper, garlic to taste
  • Olive oil
  • Sliced bacon
  • Toothpicks and aluminum foil

Wash, pat dry asparagus. Bundle it into small bunches, up to 10 stalks per bundle. Wrap a strip of bacon around the asparagus bundle and secure it with a toothpick, two or three strips per bundle so they cover the stalks well.

Lay the bundle on a sheet of aluminum foil and drizzle and sprinkle with olive oil and seasonings. Roll up the aluminum foil and place on the grill.

Turn the bundle every five minutes or so.

Once the stalks are tender, unwrap them, drizzle them with a bit more olive oil and spices, and place the bundles directly onto the (clean) grill. The direct heat of the flames and the coals will sear in a nice outdoorsy flavor.

Unwrap the bundle and serve directly on a plate with your main dish. I like to chop up the bacon and scatter it on top of the asparagus!
