Flu shots for babies

Q - My baby is 4 1/2 months old. I didn’t give her the flu shot this year and she became quite sick, can I still do it or should I wait till next year? How old does she need to be to receive one?

A - As a general rule we would give flu shots to babies that are 6 months to 2 years old.  Prior to 6 months there is no evidence that the baby will develop the immunity we want by giving the flu shot.  You could give it to your baby once she is 6 months and it would protect her for what is left of the flu season.
