Aaah. Those carefree days of travel when I thought

Aaah. Those carefree days of travel when I thought life was stressful and took so much for granted! And now all has changed. In Toronto we are the last in Canada to still be in stage 2. Far better off than our southern neighbours but we are still isolating and keeping to the family bubble.

I have been having so much trouble creating content in a void. The world feels too heavy for lifestyle musings. Without human connection, travel and togetherness, the motivation to create for the outside world rarely comes. At home? The impossibility of feeling like a good mom. Trying to carve out meaningful routines in self-isolation. Crying after a grocery run. Thinking about how friends in the arts are struggling. Or those who are pregnant. Or have undergone systemic racism forever. Or people who can’t attend parents’ funerals. The fear of not knowing. Having little control.

It’s hard to be an empath right now. Finding meaning. Completing projects. Injecting passion. It’s hard to feel like you are ‘enough’. @glennondoyle posted some inspiration yesterday that helped me reframe my expectations. I am enough. And we all are. 🌷 This is hard, and one smile to a neighbour. One meal cooked. One (more) load of laundry. Reading one page of a book with my child. It’s ALL enough. We are worthy and worth it and learning how to exist in this new world. Let’s try to be gentle on ourselves. (Please remind me to do this). And maybe I will put on this tuille skirt tonight, give myself a compliment, feel grateful for all my blessings and the potentially few things I’ve ‘accomplished’ today.

When I was young I’d put on a hoop skirt underne

When I was young I’d put on a hoop skirt underneath a pink taffeta gown styled after one from the 1890’s. 👗 Anne of Green Gables was my heroine. I’d pack a picnic and collection of Shakespeare sonnets and wander the ‘moors’, past a barn next to the farmhouse in Nova Scotia. 🥐📚📖 Often I’d sing show tunes or choral music as I wandered. 🎼

I was... quirky! My Mom had this #JosephPurcell painting commissioned so I’d never forget my level of romance, independence and joy. Here’s to getting back to basics and my natural roots. (Character-wise, not the hair). 🤣

How the world has changed. I seem to be counting the weeks via garbage days, and as of today I think it’s been 15 since we’ve been home. 🚛

I have very up, and very down days and not being able to plan travel or knowing what September looks like feels stifling at times. But food can take us to places and memories that transport. It lifts us. Lucky to have sugar, limes and graham crackers. When I look back to March, worried about flour, chicken and fresh produce I feel so blessed. Seventeen years with my soulmate. That we are renovating Mom’s 1780’s farmhouse in #NovaScotia where we were married makes my heart full. Here’s to everyone who made the day so perfect, particularly those who are no longer with us. 😢

Just as life necessarily means change, so evolves love. We are blessed that our love has deepened, we are able to grow as individuals within our union, and our kids and many of the same friends and family members are focal points in our life.

I guess 17 years means furniture - we will have to substitute new taps, toilets and cabinets. 💡🔧🚽🛁🚰 Can’t wait to celebrate at the farm once Atlantic Canada’s quarantine is lifted and the renovation is more progressed!!! Happy Anniversary @derekamery ❤️❤️❤️🎉🎉🎉

Ready for #HamiltonMusical!!!! We have a tradition (since London in February, and taking the kids to @bookofmormon and @matildathemusical) of getting them @shakeshack burgers afterwards. Yeah. This man. These boys. The best part of COVID times has been being able to see him in Dad action for 100 days straight, working from home, fixing bikes and quoting Big Bang Theory. Week 2 of teaching a Zoom cooking club to the boys

Week 2 of teaching a Zoom cooking club to the boys’ school! They have been awesome sous-chefs, and I’m having a blast! Parents and kids make a full meal for Wednesday dinner, and I share tips and tricks I’ve learned over the years from lessons and far too much @foodnetworkca watching. Gives me an excuse to clean the kitchen too! So far: ruby red sauce and homemade meatballs, hot fudge sauce, breaded chicken and tilapia, and chocolate mug cakes. ❤️Contemplating a quarantine cooking show on YouTube now! 🤣🥂
