Chicago with Kids at the Trump International Hotel
Chicago is a great city. Watery, windy and boasts seriously fabulous shopping. We loved strolling the Miracle Mile and having the kids try to look up Marilyn Monroe’s skirt. Yeah. Not one of my finer parenting moments. Hit Trader Joe’s for snacks (especially if you’re from Canada and haven’t tried it before). The Art Institute of Chicago is a phenomenal place to take the kids and can stimulate fab discussion (hopefully a tad deeper than discussing Marilyn’s legs…)
We stayed at the Trump International Hotel Chicago, and I was impressed (or possibly intimidated) by the huge modern entryway. The lobby and staff were efficient, helpful and the doormen anticipated our arrival before we even thought of entering.
The rooms were spectacular. Silk, softness, sheets to dye for and a view of the water. Mauve, white and silver calmed us all down, and I would have stayed in the room all day had it not been for the shopping that beckoned along the Miracle Mile!
The hotel’s roof was my favourite place. ‘The Terrace‘ – open through the summer – makes you feel like you are at an Indonesian or Thai Tikki bar while looking at a beautiful skyline filled with skyscrapers. The servers in their tiffany-blue attire, were chatty and stunning. I must figure out who designed their outfits.
Be Seen: The patio of the Ralph Lauren Restaurant. Wear heels and big shades.
Shop: American Girl Store. They’ll even give your doll a head transplant and put her in a hospital gown while she’s in the infirmary.
Eat: Deep Dish pizza like the one we reviewed from Pizano’s.
Take: The Water Taxi. The river is cooler than the concrete jungle and it’s an easy route to dim sum in Chinatown.
Go: The Chicago Children’s Museum. Building, water play, dinosaur discovery and the latest circus exhibit will thrill the kids. And they get to check out Navy Pier.
Build: At Legoland Discovery Center Chicago. Oh la la!
Get: The Chicago Children’s Pass. It will save you some coin. More to spend on the Terrace at the Trump..
Disclosure: UrbanMommies was given a slightly discounted rate at the Trump International Hotel Chicago.
