Talk Like a Pirate Day
Aarrr. Ahoy, mateys. September 19th is ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day’. As parents, you probably can’t join the barmaid and Orlando Bloom-inspired parties, but you can have a ton of fun with the kids. Why not have a special treasure hunt? Dress up in great costumes (why toss those stained jeans when they can be cut off and frayed as pirate playwear?) You could dye old white things using tea, grab some blackberries from the bushes to ’stain’ an old dress, and make an x-marks-the-spot map out of paper that can be burned at the edges and soaked in tea to look a bit older. Have fun with your kids. The Blackbeard memories will last forever. Oh – and when you ask them to clean their rooms, make sure they respond with aye aye.
