Running during pregnancy?
Q. - Is running a good exercise to maintain my fitness during my pregnancy?
A. - Running can be a great exercise, but also has its risks, so precautions are necessary. If you ran before becoming pregnant, you are likely safe to continue your program gradually decreasing intensity through the first, second and third trimester. Make sure to drink enough water, wear supportive footwear, and avoid over-exertion.
If you weren't running regularly before your pregnancy, it might be more appropriate to choose walking as a regular form of exercise, since the changes in bodyweight, joint laxity, and center of gravity could increase your risk of injury if you initiate a running program.
