Dioxins in Tampons
So do you want to chat about tampons? We didn’t think so. But the more we push topics aside that don’t please us, the more we can hurt our health. Suzanne Bertaini, from Mommy Footprint, makes some excellent points about the bleach in tampons.
Did you know that:
- Non-organic brands are made of rayon (a derivative of wood pulp) or rayon cotton blends that is chlorine bleached to make them look clean and white.
- When By this method of bleaching is used, dioxins are produced and are a known carcinogen (cancer causing agent).
- Dioxin collects in the fatty cells and tissues of animals and humans and stays there for the rest of our lives.
- Synthetic fibers can stay inside a woman’s uterus after a tampon has been taken out.
Maybe we’ll head to Whole Foods and get some organic products. Pronto.
