With a loss of 15 pounds and 6.5% body fat, Stephanie Raposo of Burnaby has won the UrbanMommies.com MamaFit contest for 2010. Starting in November, many moms told UrbanMommies their humourous excuses for not working out. 10 semi-finalists answered an extensive questionnaire and three moms were chosen as finalists. These three were given 90 days of in-home personal training with Fitness on the Go, Nike products, treatments at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Willowstream Spa, photoshoots with Bopomo Pictures, a personal growth session with MamaRenew and closet makeovers with Wearelse. “In our first year of the MommyFit contest, we made a huge impact on the emotional, physical and spiritual development of so many women.” says Jill Amery, Editor of UrbanMommies.com. “The finalists chronicled their personal and physical development on our website, and they amassed an extensive following while blogging about their experiences each week. Many moms across Canada read their posts and were motivated by their ups and downs.”
The winner was announced at a chic closing reception at the Fairmont Pacific Rim’s Oru Restaurant. (We’ll be posting the fab mocktail recipes created by Oru shortly). Ms. Raposo is the mother of two small children and her 6 month old daughter attended the grand event. (Our winner also melted many hearts with her post about completing the Vancouver SunRun with her father by her side.) Her grand prize consists of a position writing for UrbanMommies, a $250 Fitness on the Go credit, a lifetime Nike discount, a night at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel, a $50 credit at the Willowstream Spa, and a Wearelse Makeover. All fitness blogs can be found at www.urbanmommies.com.
We should have known from the beginning that Stephanie had motivation as well as humour on her side with her excuse for not exercising:
“My excuse for not working out has nothing to do with the lack of hours in the day or even lack of energy. Instead, my attempts to work out are sabotaged by a screaming 3 year old every time I try to put my yoga or Pilates DVD in. “I WANT MY SHOW!!!” Unfortunately, Dora has not released a butt and thigh video yet. So I have succumbed to working on my other hobbies which include anything crafty such as quilting, creating works of art with my toddler, making sock monkeys and sorting buttons by colour…”
The contest will be even bigger next year so watch for our calls for contestants!
