Garnier Ultra Lift

How do you picture yourself? I envision ‘me’ as a young woman of the renaissance. Or maybe Paris in the 1930s, chatting about science and philosophy while sporting a 26-inch waist and flawless dew-kissed skin. Kind of. That might be a stretch, but I didn’t ever think I was ‘ready’ for a (gasp)…wrinkle cream. I am not a very high-maintenance woman.  (Stilettos and nails aside). I don’t drink enough water, I dislike the spa (so much loitering) and would much rather play a round of tennis than jump onto a stairclimber (it’s social so you can kill two birds with one stone).

Agreeing to participate in a Garnier Ultra Lift trial, I was excited. The products are very affordable, beautifully packaged and available in a day cream, night cream and super-duper eye stuff too. Wow. Perhaps this means I am now a woman. Mature. Opening up the package, I was confident and couldn’t wait to dive in. And then I pulled out a ‘ruler’. Not just any ruler, but an ‘eye wrinkle ruler’ sporting different levels of wrinkly-ness with corresponding numbers. No worries, I’ve got this one. I don’t have wrinkles. I’m not even 40. Confidently placing the ruler to my eye and smiling proudly, I stare into the mirror and feel faint. Really faint. On a scale of 1-10, I was a 4. Four. Where in the name of goodness did those come from and why didn’t anyone tell me? (Apart from that crabby facial woman who told me to drink more water.)

I was ready. I am serious. At Olympic speeds, I smeared and slathered. Circular motions. Which finger am I supposed to use again? (The ring finger I think). I diligently rubbed the product into my skin over a two-week period, and I must admit, the ruler was never far away. The night cream was thick and my skin still felt moist every morning when I woke. The day cream was a tad heavier than I am used to, but I suspect it must have something to do with the wrinkle-erasing ingredients. Similar to my cup of tea each night, the application of the eye cream gave me a calming feeling and became part of a routine for me. Interestingly, the simple routine of a face regimen acted as a cornerstone to a healthier lifestyle overall. Suddenly I was pouring chia and hemp hearts on my morning yoghurt and making an effort to do a few daily crunches.

My skin is incredibly sensitive. Having been treated by scary medications during the 1990s for acne, I know that testing anything on my skin can be dicey. My face even hurts when I cry salty tears. Seriously. (Read: be nice to me). While Garnier Ultra Lift products were heavier than my skin can usually tolerate, a good exfoliation illuminated the skin once more and, as I measured the wrinkles…unbelievable. I am a 2 now, thank you. And my husband has decided to arm-wrestle me for the products, as he is a closet eye-cream aficionado.

So sliding from an ‘eye wrinkle’ 4 to a 2 is pretty amazing. Now I just have to try it with dress sizes.
