Can’t write. Kids won’t let me get at the computer. They are colouring Thomas and Friends with click and drop paint… Ok. Whew. Now I can share the excitement. We are having a mocktail in celebration of the launch of Springo Kids, a customizable homepage that organizes the most popular kid-friendly, approved websites displayed in a highly visual format. The service offers kids aged 4-12 a tailored and safe Web environment, which caters to kids’ abilities and individual interests. You just have to figure out a way to get the kids to stop touching the screen. (Or find a good product to get rig of fingerprints!) Because Springo Kids maps out popular websites with pictures, they create an easy-to-use experience even for children who can’t yet read. The homepage links to a variety of popular websites, organized in rows by topic, including Learning, Games for Girls, Math, Sports, and Kid Worlds.
“As children today are exploring the Internet at younger and younger ages, our goal is to effectively direct them to those sites that promote both learning and fun in a safe environment,” said Aviv Refuah, CEO of Springo. “We want kids to immediately feel comfortable on Springo Kids as they instinctively respond to pictures, recognize the logos or images of those sites they love to visit, and intuitively know how to navigate to them.”
Springo Kids blocks inappropriate sites by employing a complex back-end technology, as well as human editors. “Parents and teachers can confidently encourage their children to explore the Web as Springo Kids features popular kid-friendly sites and filters explicit content,” added Refuah. “Springo Kids continues to monitor development of new sites to showcase those destinations that are most appealing to kids and exclude those that are not.”
