Shellac Manicure Giveaway

You might think this a bit shallow, but my first New Year’s Resolution was to always make sure my nails look good.  Now, this may sound hedonistic, but coming from a girl who gardens incessantly, hauls garbage and despises wasted time at spas, it is saying a lot.  I heard about Shellac and agreed to an application of this miracle nail gel polish at a local salon.  I go in knowing a few things.  It lasts 3 or 4 weeks.  (Yeah – right..) It doesn’t hurt your nails, and there is no drying time.  Did you hear that?!  The bain of my existence – smudged toes, cutsie-pie hands while trying desperately to pay for your manicure without wrecking it.  Or the best – driving the car like a precious Barbie doll holding the steering wheel just-so to prevent nail mishaps.

I feel like I’m in the know.  I was so excited about my manicure (procrastination had nothing to do with it.  Seriously). that I got a pedicure too.  And I put my socks and boots on within a minute of it finishing.  I’m a stickler for matching nails.  What if they ran out of the colour before I came back for the toes?  Good excuse, huh?

The ladies and I watched in the salon as a jaunty private school girl bounced in.  She wanted gel but not GEL.  And sparkles.  (Crucial.)  The lady beside her (who wondered if she’d left her Chanel watch there during her last visit) admired my colour and we both piped up and explained the benefits of Shellac.  I was a mere novice but the wealthy matron was a veteran.  What a trans-generational bond.  Over nail polish.

But think of it.  You pay a sitter or beg a spouse to watch the kids while you get nails done.  And you’re bored.  And they chip in a few days, but you already smudged them while trying to find your car keys.  For a few dollars more, no chips, faster, no smudges and instantaneously dry.  I’m not only sold, but I’m going to have to find another new year’s resolution.  This one was so easy it feels like a cop-out.

As far as I can tell, the key to Shellac is a UV light that sets the get polish and renders it dry within minutes.  Same as a normal manicure: base coat, 2 polish coats and a topcoat, but each is set with a special UV machine.  It takes about 30 minutes, and your nails are still quite flexible.

Move over June Cleaver, no more rubber gloves – a great manicure and you can still do dishes! Shellac attack me!

I would love wild pink or orange color so my nails would POP during these long dark days of winter. And, when I look at my pretty fingers, I can be inspired to match the color with a fruity drink with also matching drink umbrella. ;)

My nail colours change with the seasons! :) Soft, subtle, sparkly – is so me during these dreary winter days. I love a light peach on my olive skin tone. But come summertime and I’m all for tropical vibrant colours, even neon! Autumn calls for dark oranges and purples. That’s Me!

I like to keep my nails short and clean – anything as long as they don’t chip.
