Edgie Wedgie
It sounds a tad … dirty… ah-hem.. But this little rubber thing really works. In teaching kids how to ski, you screw the metal clasp at either end of the edgie wedgie to the tips of your child’s skis. The rubber tubing between is able to stretch and band as it keeps the tips of the skis in a dynamic snowplow position. (And you can giggle about the name for hours.) Free Olympic Events in Vancouver
If you were one of the many who were not graced with Olympic tickets, no need to worry. As we watch Vancouver get decorated and coiffed, there are tons of free events for you to enjoy with your kids. Check them out on this site.
Skating at Robson Square
In preparation for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, the city has done some pretty spectacular things. One of our favourites is the GE Plaza at Robson Square, an outdoor skating rink complete with live music, a zamboni painted like an Orca, and free helmets for children. Oh – and strollers are permitted on the ice. What more could a parent want? You can even rent skates (a la Rockefeller Plaza) for a romantic lunch date downtown with a working spouse (and the Bugaboo can accompany you as you glide together). Robson Street at Howe, free admission, $3 ice skate rentals. Open 9am – 9pm.

Run Bikes
The daffodils are popping out of the ground, and a young child’s eyes wander to the older kids and their cool bicycles. But who wants training wheels, really, which just say that you’re not a big kid yet? Enter the run bike. Just like it’s more mature version, but without pedals, it allows a toddler to coast and gain a sense of balance for an easy transition into the big leagues. www.norco.com
