Breaking Down the Style Basics: An Interview with Charlotte Jenkins

beauty, EAVESDROP, Overheard, style By January 24, 2017 No Comments

UrbanMommies talked to Charlotte Jenkins, on how she balances motherhood with a public and demanding role at Toronto’s fashion hot-shop, GOTStyle.

Best of all, she gave us the inside scoop on how moms AND dads can play the part of parent of the year, without adopting the ‘look’.

At work, Charlotte has tackled everything from “glam stuff to the not-so-glamorous” for all three of GOTStyle’s retail platforms. Between “problem-solving, getting things done on the fly, as well as fixing things… It’s definitely prepared me for being a mother. Well, nothing can prepare you for being a mother, but…”

A Family Battling Lyme Disease

EAVESDROP, FAM, health, Overheard By August 9, 2016 No Comments

Imagine never feeling well and having doctors diagnose you with a different illness each time you sought help. Imagine health providers blaming your mental state for a disease that you would later discover had been the cause of your suffering all along. And then imagine realizing that your infection had been passed to your kids, and this particular disease is so not funded in Canada, making accurate diagnosis and treatment extremely limited. Such was the case with Tanis Michelsen, who has since become an advocate for the recognition and treatment of lyme disease.

We all know/love Aden + Anais for their delicious muslin swaddles, made famous by everyone—from just about every baby-toting celeb on the planet, to every mom in the know—but now they’re batting it out of the park again with their new muslin clothing line. With kimono tops, strategic snaps and covered zippers, I’m wishing they came in mommy sizes.

How to Remove Soil, Crayon and Jam Stains (With Video)

EAVESDROP, LIVE, Seen, wash By April 15, 2016 Tags: , , , , , , , , , 2 Comments

Time to get messy!!! I love my job. Tide Ultra Stain Release has challenged my family to a little game. They sent along a few white t-shirts (hope it doesn’t rain…) and Tide Ultra Stain Release with a special ‘Zap Cap’ that has texture for you to scrub nasty stains with. After each activity, I throw the shirts in the wash to see how great this detergent really is. Such Fun!!! Each video shows how I removed the stain using the Zap Cap. My first task is for the kids and I to see how well Tide Ultra Stain Release can remove soil, crayon and jam stains!

An Interview With Jill Biden

EAVESDROP, Overheard By March 2, 2016 Tags: , , , , , , , , , 1 Comment

As part of the National Geographic Kids’ Insiders program, I had the opportunity to hop on a call with none other than the Second Lady of the United States Dr. Jill Biden. We did a Q&A with Dr. Biden about My Shot, her enthusiasm for kids education, her love of teaching, her support of the National Geographic Bee (she hosted a celebration of the Bee finalists at the VP residence in May 2015), and how she balances motherhood, education and her responsibilities to the Government of the United States.

As you will see in the video – the whole family is ill right now! This Greek Lemon Chicken Soup is a nourishing, delicate recipe that punches with flavour and hopefully makes everyone in my house better! This recipe calls for couscous, but you can replace this with quinoa, orzo or larger-format Israeli couscous.

Barbie Evolved - Podcast with Erica Ehm

Podcast: Erica Ehm from YummyMummyClub on Barbie

EAVESDROP, Overheard By February 9, 2016 Tags: , , , , , , , , No Comments

We’re thrilled today to be speaking with Erica Ehm from the YummyMummyClub about an exciting new and relatively historic event that has taken place which she has had a hand in developing. Mattel has been making the Barbie Doll, essentially unchanged, for years. Even through the era of men’s magazine and feminism, not much changed for that classic American icon, Barbie. But today, there’s been an announcement.
