I had a baby last week and this is such a great website for info. Thanks! I dropped my old camera into an open coffee cup in the car and for some reason, the Future Shop people refused to cover the warrantee.

Why I need a new Camera….. ‘cos I’m 47, have 5 children and have never had one!!!

I need a new camera as my 2 1/2 year old wanted to see if it was waterproof in the potty. Might not have been too bad, maybe could have dried out, except she has just went potty! Changing her 9 mth old bro’s diaper, when I heard splash and knew it wasn’t a good sound!

I have only “inherited” the hand-me-downs from family members when they upgrade. Heck, my husband found an old Canon Elf in our closet and asked me “How much can we get on Craigslist for this?” I had to laugh out loud. I replied, “We would have to pay someone to take it to the garbage – they don’t even make that type of film anymore!” Now that we have a new baby I would love to capture the moments with a new camera too!

My hubby took ours on a kayaking trip and got dunked by a wave. It was in a “water-proof” bag that apparently wasn’t so waterproof. Would love to snap our soon to be 2 year old with a great new camera. Thanks!

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I am very excited to read about your contest. Unfortunately on Christmas eve my home was robbed and my camera was taken. I was given an old one but it is too expensive to fix. I will soon be adopting a two year old girl and would love to have a camera to record the special moment!

I dropped ours and now the card reader doesnt work.
Would LOVE a new one in time for my little man’s 3rd birthday.
    Thank you.

I would like to win this prize for my mother in-law. I’m so lucky to have her in my life. She does so much for my son and I. She lost her camera on holiday and has to borrow her sisters every time we come over.

Thank you and good luck everyone!

I need a new camera, because my shutter button broke off of my current camera and the flash takes too long to recharge after taking a picture. I have two kids and want to capture every special moment!

Help! I am in desperate need of a new camera!!!! The first digital camera we bought was four years ago this February when our first son was born.

Since then, it has seen poops, pees, spit-ups (lots of spit-ups), food fights, outdoor activities in the rain and more…

The flash isn’t working properly anymore, and there are (water?) marks on the lense, which ends up turning precious family moments into abstract art!

We really need a new camera before the birth of our second child in June 2010…

Please pick us!!!! Please, Please, Please!!!

I would love my own camera to take pics of my son on his first birthday (next month) instead of borrowing my neighbours.

We would love a new camera to capture photos of our expanding family! I would love to create memories that will remind us of that moment for years to come! As new parents we have become painfully aware of how quickly moments fly by, how quickly children grow and how important it is to have even the smallest moments captured in a photograph. Please pick us so that we can preserve family memories forever!!

  14. SuZ January 12, 2010 at 12:08 pm ·

Oh Lawd, where do I start? Well, let’s start with the guilt. When I had my first baby my hubby had this huge fancy professional digital camera that he used to photograh her entire first year. Everything from the delivery to the birthday party… then he sold it b/c the recession. So now I’m pregnant with baby #2 and have only a dinky, crappy point and shoot that takes HORRIBLE pictures. I know that if I don’t win this camera and have it for my delivery and this baby’s first year I’ll most likely be voted world’s worst Mom and when baby #2 is 10, she’ll swear she’s adopted and unloved b/c we didn’t take pictures of her like we did her older sister.

    Whew…. that’s a lot huh?

    But it’s the truth!

  15. Quentin January 12, 2010 at 12:43 pm ·

I love all the responses so far. I have been interested in a new camera for years as I love to capture photos of my little ones. Just 2 weeks ago when we were in Hawaii, our stroller was pushed by a gust of wind into the swimming pool. Incredibly, I was able to get there in time to prevent the stroller from sinking to the bottom of the pool, but not before our camera was completely soaked. Fortunately I didn’t lose many photos as I had been downloading them daily, but I now need a new camera as I’d like to update our blog.

I need a new camera because I would love to give it to my dad for his 56th birthday coming up in February to replace the one that was lost.My sister borrowed his and lost it on New Year’s Eve along with her own cell phone while down at the beach for celebrations. It was the very first expensive digital camera ($1000 for a sony)my dad ever bought on a whim 7 years ago to take pictures of my graduation and to take on a first time ever 3 week long family trip to asia in 2005-sadly most of those pictures were lost. This would be an amazing gift. Thanks!

  28. Crystal January 20, 2010 at 3:47 pm ·

Oh I am in such DESPERATE need of a new camera. Here are the top 5 reasons.

#5. I recently started my own business selling shirts that I make. While my product shots are getting better… they certainly have a long way to go. I need a new camera.

#4. My husband has his own camera and I have mine. I wanted one that was small enough to tote around in my diaper bag. His is big, so he always grabs mine. He has dropped it. On numerous occasions. Once on the cement floor of the garage, most recently in the road in front of our house. Its on its last legs. I need a new camera.

#3. I took so many fabulous pictures of my daughter during the first year of her life. Then my husband dumped them all on a hard drive and wiped our computer. When he tried to load the photos back on the hard drive fried and we lost a years worth of photographic memories. I need a new camera… to help make new memories.

#2. My husbands grandmother is turning 100 this year and we are hoping to make a trip to the Phillipines for her birthday. To be able to photograph this 100 year old woman who has lived through so much with my year and a half old daughter sitting on her lap would be amazing. I need a new camera.

#1. My daugher is the most precious thing in the world to me. I want to capture as many of her perfect little moments as possible. Time is going way to quickly but I look forward to sitting down with her children one day and showing them what an incredible little person their mommy was. I need a new camera. :)

  29. Nicole January 20, 2010 at 9:08 pm ·

After a year of being banged around in my diaper bag and being used as a toy/teether by my son, my current camera is on its last legs. The lens is no longer properly aligned (one too many throw/falls off the couch by the kiddo), so when I turn the camera on, I have to push the lens to the middle and hope it lines up properly and will turn on all the way instead of going in and out repeatedly while making sad noises. Turning the camera off requires the same song and dance.

I would love a new camera because at the end of this month, I am starting a “365 blog” of my son, where I take a picture of him every day and write a little blurb about that picture. This will go on for his entire second year and it will be a great way to see how he grows and what kinds of things we did. Having great pictures is key! And I certainly can’t take any pictures if my current camera quits on me. And obviously, no camera, no pictures, no blog.

And lastly, I would love a new camera because if I see Patrick Chan during the Olympics, I don’t want to miss out on the photo opportunity!

  30. Paulina January 20, 2010 at 9:36 pm ·

I used to have an old 35mm-it took great pics until it was stolen. We replaced it with our first ever digital camera…which blipped and died on our first ever vacation together. The second replacement camera is on the fritz and most of our pictures of our newborn are ruined. We would love a new camera to capture the precious moments with our new one.

  31. Josi January 22, 2010 at 11:56 am ·

Old digital is toast! Everytime you put power on, the battery compartment opens and the batteries fall out. Tried ducktape (sorry Red Green) but it still won’t ‘power up’ and open lens. Children are going to Olympics and would like to send camera with them to take lots of pics for us.(unable to go ourselves.) Then we could ‘live vicariously’ through them and imagine we were there too!

  32. karen January 23, 2010 at 10:34 am ·

I am having very bad picture troulbes.
I phoned the camera company and no luck.
My pictures are fuzzy and reddish, a hand comes on screen, to show camera is not working properly.
Did I mention I am off to Bahamas for my daughters wedding. It appears she may be fuzzy and red.
The trip is so costly, I will have to pass on another new camera.

  33. Suki January 24, 2010 at 11:27 pm ·

Lets be honest, what new parent doesn’t need a new camera. Our little people become the centre of our universe and change so quickly – we just want to record every moment with them. What better way to share the joy they bring and the daily development with family and friends than with oodles of photos…

  34. Jocelyn January 26, 2010 at 11:15 am ·

I dropped our pretty new camera. I had the camera case upside down and thought it was closed (while trying to grab all the accroutements that come with children, out of the car) and plop! onto the ground went the camera. The zoom doesn’t really work anymore.

  35. Marlene V January 26, 2010 at 4:25 pm ·

I need a new camera because I gave my sister my camera. I dropped hers at Christmas dinner — she asked me to take a picture of her and her husband and passed it me which is when I dropped it on the floor. I felt so guilty I gave her my camera and haven’t been able to afford to replace my own camera:(

I don’t need a new camera, my baby does! My 2yr old absolutely loves having his picture taken and puts on this cheesy smile that would make anyone melt (like cheese:))He is also a miracle baby that took 7yrs to conceive. Now that’s what I call a special baby that needs a special camera!

I am 32, a first time mom, and my husband, a first time dad. We are cautiously and happily awaiting the birth and development of our boy or girl. We wanted to find out the sex, but he/she is shy. I can’t wait to be a mother and bring our child to the farm my husband grew up on. I want to take pictures and footage of my child exploring nature and playing in it. I’m super excited and want to share the happy feelings with others.

  40. Daniela January 26, 2010 at 5:55 pm ·

This Panasonic claims to be the fastest at capturing the moment and I have missed many because my Canon isn’t quick enough or they turn out blurry.

  41. colleen January 26, 2010 at 6:55 pm ·

Wow, thanks for having this contest! Like so many other people, a camera would help me capture the hilarious toddler moments of my beautiful daughter. But also, I would love a camera for my work as a doula. Providing labour support to moms and their families affords me the special privilege of being invited into one of the most precious moments in life. But you would be surprised how many frantic first time parents end up at the hospital having forgot their cameras, or at home with (as is clear from the comments above) a wet, dropped, broken camera! I would love to be able to pull a sleek new, DMC-ZR1 LUMIX digital camera out of my doula bag and save the day! Also as a volunteer doula, I work with young/teen moms, some of whom cannot afford a camera, and having this camera would allow me to capture this moment for them. Being a doula is a labour of love and not always of a ton of money, so would you make this doula’s day and give her a camera? C’mon I’ve never won anything! ;-)

  42. Pia January 26, 2010 at 7:38 pm ·

I so totally need this camera as my little Phoebe is due 16 Feb. and I would love to be able to have a phenomenal camera to capture all the precious moments as they occur to immortalize my little angle! This would be a great – I could pop the little camera in my bag wherever we go & when dad is not there to share a moment, I would have it captured for us to share with him later! Thanks for the opportunity to participate!
    Take care
    Pia

As a new mom, I can’t believe how many times I wished I had a camera so I could capture all of the precious moments spent falling in love with my baby boy and husband. This has been a wonderful winter full of first memories. I would love to win this prize!

  44. Abbey January 26, 2010 at 9:15 pm ·

I got a small camera (not a great one, but at least it was digital!) for Christmas 2 years ago. I was so glad to have one to keep in my pocket so that I could catch any memorable moment my daughter found herself in (and there are many, she’s a very charismatic fist child!). Now she is 4 years old and has a 9 month old brother. Once again, I found myself glad to have an easily accessible camera around to capture all of the important events. (I am a second child, and by the time I came along, nobody felt much like taking pictures, so I was determined to capture as much of my 2nd child’s early years as I did of my first’s –I don’t want him to be looking at pictures in 15 years and wondering where he was during all of the action!) Our Holiday trip this year was to Florida to introduce my kids to their 15 month old cousin. It was cold and un-Florida like during our trip, but my sister-in-law and I were determined to get the kids to the beach at least once –decked out in coordinating (by coincidence!) bathing suits and at just the right age to start having fun in the sand. I took so many great shots –my daughter running from the undertow, the babies laughing and trying to eat the sandcastles, my nephew buried up to his neck in the sand! Since my parents couldn’t join us at the beach, I knew the would be really appreciative of me capturing all of these great moments with their grandkids. I packed up our stuff while my sister took the kids to the car, and I shook out the last blanket, folded it up and carried everything off. When we got home, I realized that somehow, my camera didn’t make it home! We tore the car and house apart for two days before I finally gave up, and had my daughter draw a picture of what the beach had been like, so it wouldn’t be a total loss for my parents. Since that day, my son has learned to crawl, used a cup and taken his first sled ride. He’s also DESPERATELY in need of his first haircut (he’s got a terrible mullet), but I refuse to cut it until I can take a picture of the big moment! My daughter has learned to ski and baked her first “all-by-myself” cupcakes.
Don’t let me miss out on documenting all of this lovely little memories! I need a camera!

  45. Meidy January 26, 2010 at 9:48 pm ·

Because my 13 months old daughter loves to drop and chew our old camera! Now it’s all full of scratches and drool that the quality isn’t the greatest anymore lol :D Despite that I love her to bits and keeps taking her pictures almost everyday to capture every moment of her life :):) Definitely would be nice to have a new camera so we each can have one camera :)

  46. Melanie January 26, 2010 at 10:57 pm ·

My camera (which I received as a gift in 2005) has a terrible shutter lag, meaning I’ve missed countless smiles and perfect shots of my kids (and have too many photos of my cats’ tails when they lost patience and walked away before the shutter clicked!).

  47. Vivienne January 27, 2010 at 12:50 am ·

Doing my green thing I was toting my reusable water bottle everywhere, until it leaked in my bag and soaked my camera! (Now it’s sitting on the naughty step!) Can’t afford to fix or replace it, and my kids are growing up fast!! All my family is in the UK and would love to get pix of the children – Grandma especially needs her “fix”! Hoping to win!

as newly weds and new house owners my husband and I have many new and exciting moments that we would love to capture, unfortunately our camera is one that I was given almost 10 years ago… needless to say, it is slow and finicky and frustrating to use, while we do have exciting moments we want to remember it often isn’t worth the hassle of fighting with the camera!
Also we are expecting our first baby so with all of the upcoming expenses it isn’t likely that a new camera will be at the top of our purchase list anywhere in the near future.

  56. Maureen January 31, 2010 at 8:06 pm ·

I would love to be able to take and share pictures with family & friends, most of whom are are out-of-province so pictures is the way we have to “visit” and watch the grand-kiddies grow up. I have an old film camera which I still use, but there is only one place I can take it to have the film developed now, and converting to digital formats is both expensive and difficult there (and who knows how long this service will exist, since it has been discontinued everywhere else?). If I had the means, I would buy it but, although it’s not exactly a luxury in today’s techie environment, it is on my luxury item wish list.

  57. Rose JORUNDSON January 31, 2010 at 9:32 pm ·

Well, I finally ran out of black and white polaroid fim. When I went to the store the fellow there told me they haven’t sold that type of film since the 70′s. I think it’s time for a new camera and an update on 2010 technology.

  58. Alma February 3, 2010 at 5:16 pm ·

I would love to replace the camera that my son used as a teether. It wasn’t waterproof or should I say drool proof and it’s not covered in our warranty. As well, we live far away from his grandparents and they loved the slideshows I would send them on a monthly basis. They get to see him grow up when they see the uploaded pictures.

  59. Carolyn February 5, 2010 at 11:48 am ·

Recently while traveling I tripped and dropped my camera, breaking the LCD screen. Amazingly it still took photos! But, as old age and probably a few loose parts from the fall took over, it just stopped opening and all it did was make an awful noise every time I turned it on. It’s sad to see a camera die. But I desperately need a new one!
