The Canada Line
Pay just under four bucks for a 2-zone pass and you have a very cool outing with your little ones (or simply great transit). The newly opened Canada Line extends from Waterfront Station to YVR (the Vancouver airport), with a few stops in between. You might think you are in Hong Kong or Europe, as the shiny new train, electronic-everything and lovely woman’s voice on the loudspeakers are so slick. With 16 new stops over 19km, you can ride to the airport and watch the planes, check out the art, shop, go to the doctor, get your hair cut, flowers bought and drycleaning taken in – aaah – the beauty of YVR. www.canadaline.ca

Technology can intimidate me, but it should exist to make our lives easier. So get out the PVR manual, create a Twitter handle and use technology to your advantage. We need all the extra time we can get, and sometimes a text or an email received on a wireless device can decrease stress in our hectic lives. Read more
Gingerbread Christmas Ornaments
When I was a student, I felt quite strongly about having a grown-up household on a low budget – especially for the holidays. In decorating my Christmas tree, I discovered gingerbread ornaments and white bows. Combined with tiny white lights, it was the most beautiful tree I had ever seen. (and the anatomically correct gingerbread people made great conversation at parties). Because we at UrbanMommies love the environment, and also feel that you can be stylish too – you might want to bake these with your kids. I kept mine for over 10 years. (Two tips: a) they don’t taste great after a few years. b) don’t let your dog eat them.) Read more
